Prof. Dr. Alex Hankey
Academic Advisor

Alex Hankey is a theoretical physicist trained at MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and currently a Distinguished Professor of Yoga and Physical Science, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandana Samsthana (S-VYASA), Bangalore, India. He gained a Triple First in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, which he attended, having gained a scholarship to Trinity College, and enrolled in 1964. He gained an English-Speaking Union Studentship to study for a year at M.I.T. but was then granted the Greenlaw Fellowship to finish his Ph.D. He specialized in particle physics and studied group theory under R.D. Gilmore and relativity with Nobel laureate Steven Weinberg, who guided his first three research projects. As a result of observations made during a summer school on Critical Phenomena, he joined H.E. (Gene) Stanley's group, under whose guidance he wrote eight research articles on critical points of a higher order - the now-standard terminology that they proposed. After a year at Stanford Linear Accelerator on a Lindemann Fellowship, which he was awarded on the recommendation of Sir Fred Hoyle, Dr. Alex decided to join the nascent Maharishi University of Management, where he gained expertise in the relationship between the sciences of east and west. Insights gained from such comparisons have informed his current expertise in complementary systems of medicine, cognitive sciences, and consciousness studies, in which he has contributed fundamental new ideas.
Relevant Psychiatric Research As the Allard Research Chair in Oncology, Jack Tuszyński is the head of an interdisciplinary team focused on building "designer drugs" that can kill tumors and eventually lead to improved cancer cures. Through his work in computational biophysics, Jack attempts to create the perfect drugs that would target cancerous cells while reducing side effects to healthy cells. In collaboration with researchers from Texas, Jack has already developed a new generation of chemotherapy drugs that are derivatives of colchicine, the new class of these drugs preferentially affects cancerous cells. To achieve success in this new but promising field of biological modeling, he draws upon his physics background to create computer software that scans molecular targets against all available drug entities to find the perfect match. Jack works in a cancer clinic environment with the sole objective of offering hope to patients who are otherwise out of luck. Jack is also a full-time professor at the University of Alberta and on the editorial board of the Journal of Biological Physics, Journal of Biophysics and Structural Biology (JBSB), Quantum Biosystems, Research Letters in Physics, Water: a Multidisciplinary Research Journal and Interdisciplinary Sciences-Computational Life Sciences. He is an Associate Editor of The Frontiers Collection, Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg. Since January 2018, he has been appointed as Full Professor at the Polytechnic of Turin.

Cacha has been a university lecturer in Psychology subjects and its application, Research Methods, and Experimental Designs at University Malaya, Sunway, UTM, UTAR, and UNISZA for almost ten years. Her research interests are interdisciplinary in such diverse fields as psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and the cognitive underpinnings of behavior. Her work has explored the neural processes to understand the mechanism underlying mental processes, consciousness, memory mechanism, and the human affect. Understanding these phenomena eventually integrate contributing developments and insights across psychological perspectives, ethical aspects, mental health, behavioral-cognitive functions, and the psychoanalysis of human behavior. Combining methodologies and her doctoral studies on developing critical thinking through a scientific inquiry framework provide important channels for multidisciplinary interactions to explore her other research interests into applied fields that confront humans, organizational entities, societies, and the environment.
